Sunday School Part 014

hhhWHat up ya’ll. Good weekend, congrats to Richie and Autumn who got married on Saturday. El Capo and I did infact get stupid and retarded at the reception then he cuddled up to our mutual best Mexican friend Medina… yes homo. I’m pretty sure I teabagged Capo like Bruno did Eminem that night as well… pause… guess it was just my skin tone working against me. Also this fucking song was in my head the entire weekend. Kind of a little bit in love with Lykke Li right now. Would make my year if somehow Drake and her made a video for that remix.

I also just gave a really quick listen to Make$hift’s No Doze mixtape after the homie Ollie from Nickel Plated Bama co-signed it for me. Shit is pretty ill, def worth the listen. Grab the tape and follow Make$hift on twitter. Once I devote some more time to it, I’ll hit ya’ll back with the official review but from 1st listen it’s hot. He spit over Nothin But a G Thang, Get Busy the International Players Anthem and tons more so its worth checkin out.

Some hot new shit for ya’ll. I actually heard it for the 1st time like a month ago and just remembered about it again. Got that real ill classic feel to it and Eternia has some lovelies to look at.

My girl Big Lex did a nice little piece about Gone Fishing over at State News that came out a little while back. Definitely check out what she has to say and what I thought about it in the comments. If there is one person who I am jealous of when it comes to witnessing today’s hip-hop it is her. Think she saw both Common and the Cool Kids perform at State and Lupe in England? Lucky hoe. If you haven’t checked out Gone Fishing, you can get grab it here… pause.

The homie Big Sean and the rest of Finally Famous visited Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factor and partook in some fuckery with Drama (a more famous Drama than me of course). LOLz at Dougie almost eating the bike and Big Sean trying to ride a bike. You best believe the Code2Ave crew will be at the Wiz Khalifa show featuring Big Sean and Mike posner in a couple weeks. Get at us for details.

If you’re into funny style shit, complex put out a list of gayish, semi-homo, pause worthy lyrics from all over the hip-hop spectrum. It’s got me saying pause a lot more then usual as you can tell. Glad that I found a lot of lyrics that I used to SMH to on here. The one that came to my head right of the bat… pause… was #10 on there from Biggie’s the Wickedest which is still the hardest verse he ever did in my opinion. I do think that the part where he said “Biggie Smalls is the wickedest/Niggas say I’m pussy, I dare ya to stick ya dick in this” was more pause worthy to me than the part they posted on there. They could have even put “Diseases, big pleases, MCs, across the seas/It’s just the way I clutch my prey” on there. The whole song taken out of context does sound pretty gayish. But indeed check out the article.

Hope ya’ll grabbed the Fake Shore Drive mixtape last week, get it here if you haven’t. The amount of young talent in Chicago is sickening to me. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, CHICAGO IS HOT RIGHT NOW. I wish I lived out there cause they got ill shit goin on every week this summer it seems. I’ll be out there this weekend and on the 27th for Rock the Bells though so I’m happy.

Also check out the latest Dr. Dre sighting in this Dr. Pepper ad, supposedly that beat will be on Detox, we’ll see… in a year or two.

It’s been a while since we posted a Jerkin video….

Check out the video for Walkin on the Moon which I fuck with on the reg… pause.

Shot outs to El Capo for contributing to this youtube crazy update.

Sunday School Part 010

What up world? Welcome to another week of Sunday School, your hip-hop update with a douchey twist? Why not, let’s roll with it

This weekend update is dedicated to female craziness. Partake

Katy Perry and Rihanna are joining forces in light of their recent man troubles, taking trips together, going shopping, and crying on each others shoulders and what not. Having gotten word of this, Travis McCoy and Chris Brown also joined forces.

Girl Power vs. Assault Squad

I’m sure by now everyone has seen the Cassie’s new “hair cut”. Whatever takes the attention away from the fact she can’t sing is cool I guess. I do like lookin at her though, well used to at least. I personally think she should have gone with the more common ghetto due, maybe a little y clef on the side.

Half Sinead O'Connor, Half Pocahontas

And can anyone tell me why Lil Kim is looking more and more like Latoya Jackson? Tell me I’m not the only one who thinks this. It’s sad, she used to make me happy in my boy parts when I was younger.

Kim-Latoya

Skelator

Danger…. She smashed the homie… its got to be true. I also hear she was sellin her lady parts not more then a year back, there are also some nude (pre tattoo face) pictures of her floatin round the internets AND she’s bout to merry or just merried Nick Cannon’s little brother (which would make her the 2nd craziest person to merry into the Cannon family). WTF?

I finally picked up Asleep In The Bread Aisle, The Last Kiss and Deeper Than Rap… I know, I been sleepin, but I’m still the shit. Expect my takes on them next week maybe.

Check out the latest place I seen our boy Bender’s art. Right on a post in one of my favorite hip-hop blogs, wonder if he knows. Kid’s makin it big.

Also a little bit of new shit ya’ll should listen to. I think the song is hot and video is even more ill. Rob Roy – Fur In My Cap.

And if you want something a little more grounded in hip-hop, deffiently check out Keelay and Zaire – We Made It.

Be on the lookout for the Cool Kid’s mixtape with Don Cannon officially droppin Monday. Check out Malice’s new blog site where he hits you with his views and thoughts. And most importantly, stay tuned right here at code2ave.com for the official code2ave mixtape; droppin some time this month (right?).

And some special birthday weekend wishes for someone special ya dig?

Sunday School Part 003

So being as it was a slow week in hip-hop and I rather not update the whole Rihanna situation for 3 weeks straight, let’s take this time to discuss the current state of underground hip-hop.

Now growing up in the 90s; arguably the most solid decade for hip-hop, I grew up with the understanding that early underground hip-hop was that gully hood shit that didn’t really make its way too far from New York; which is partly true. Early 90s were a transitional period. On one side you have the fundamentals of hip hop, on the other you have the raw realness of hip hop. This is where you begin to see a divide, the tribe called quests against NWAs. Seeing as underground has always been non mainstream by the definition of the word, this period of time is when many of greats we know now began to master their crafts. At one spectrum you have groups link Onyx, MOP and Wu-Tang and on the other you have the brother Common Sense, De La Soul, Talib and Mos. When these acts moved into the mainstream, we witness the next era of the hip hop underground. The abstract hip-hop or back pack rap and that crack music. We are currently on the back end of this era; the likes of Atmosphere, Kidz in the Hall and Doom reppin one side and the late Stack Bundles, S.A.S. and Cory Gunz on the other.

This brings me to the main topic of discussion, we are currently in a time where internet and hipster hop are coming up from the underground. In a media crazed society it is really difficult to be underground. Charles Hamilton has already put out like 20 mixtapes this year. Cool Kids, Kid Cudi, Asher Roth, WALE!! they are experiencing great fame on the blogosphere, but do you think they will come up from this and make it in the mainstream as those who have risen from the underground have before them? I personally feel like they have and they will. Record sales will be down of course, it’s the easiest to download of the internet. My theory is they will be getting paid of the endorsements and not the record deals. I don’t see albums doing well; they have already put out great shit and even more great shit. Not sure what they would offer on an album that they haven’t already gave you. I’m not gonna go in on the this that much cause I’d like to know your thoughts on the topic (plus I’m still re-upin from Royal’s b-day); I know there’s a few heads out there who read this. Royal, Cap, Sticksworth, get at me.

I leave you with this great video
