Ahhh, another weekend of slowly killing my liver. Hope the boogie went down for everyone last night…. Drama’s hip-hop review LETS GO!!
So I’m kinda mad I slept on this. This dude K’Naan is actually pretty talented. Think the reason I never checked his shit out is because I’d always see one of his bullshit ass facebook ads and just got mad bout them cause I hate every ad on facebook that isn’t for hot singles or dating or some other bullshit I signed up for then got mad because it wasn’t free and there were not hot beeches on it… but I digress. Check this out, he got the help out from non other than Chubb Rock (Treat em Riiiiight).
Also check out Chubb Rock and Wordsmith’s Old 2 the New. Pretty ill Matrix concept even though it looks like I filmed and edited it (lol @ Chubb Rock slappin Agent Smith lookin boy). Kinda interested in this Bridging the Gap album they got set to drop in June.

Onyx is back? Well to tell you the truth, they never left. Since 92 they’ve been doing their thang without so much as a break. They kicked mainstream in the dick when they dropped Slam in 93 (I’m sure you all remember that shit) but that was the peak of their mainstream success. Mainstream has never been their thing though; they started out and will always be an underground group, pretty much the definition of underground. They dropped records in 93, 95, 98, 03 and what I assume to be Black Rock coming out this year. Staying busy with that, doin shows and callin 50 Cent a bitch ass trick. Check out the 1st single from the new album, its no Last Dayz but Sticky does come with that raw on it.

Haven’t dropped this heavy since I smashed a grande meal at taco bell. Feelin generous, enjoy the week in hip-hop.
Like to start of by biggin up Biggie Smalls. Its been 12 years since he died, really puts things into perspective with the whole hip-hop game and life in general. There has never been a “greatest rapper” discussion without his name coming up in it. In my opinion, Biggie had the illest lyrics and flow EVER, but I could be Dead Wrong. He wasn’t always coming with the best content and I kinda feel like once he got into the more mainstream stuff he wasn’t coming with the same rawness he came with when he was a hungry kid slangin on the corner tryin to make a dollar. Regardless he had a multitude of hits, influenced countless other artists and was the undisputed king of New York for his short but illustrious career. RIP BIG.
Biggie was from the past and the future, even the fuhrer got at him.

Stayin on the topic of Kings of New York, I came across this dope ass article about the Nas and Jay-Z beef over at Kevin Nottingham’s blog. Dude pretty much broke down the entirety of the beef, track by track. I’ve always felt that if anyone could take down Jay, it would have been Nas. When the beef was over I had mixed feelings, mostly because that’s when both Nas and Jay put out there worst albums but things started getting on the up and up and it was really an important moment in hip-hop. Big ups Kevin Nottingham, hip-hop head of 2008.

There is talk that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube will be collaborating soon. Not on an album but on “Straight Outta Compton” the N.W.A documentary. Not sure how I feel about it right now, I’m sure they’re going to make Easy E out to be a little bitch in it, hopefully Ice Cube doesn’t turn it into First Sunday. There has also been word that T.I. is ghostwriting tracks on Dre’s Detox album which is scheduled to be released never.
Chris Brown and Rihanna are gonna make a record together now, Polo the Don producing it… and I really didn’t want to get into Chris Brown today… pause. Anyway the whole situation is re-god-damn-diculous. Apparently the text from the women Chris had past relations with is his old ass manager chick Tina Davis. The entire week in day time television has been dedicated to preventing women’s violence and Oprah and Tyra and whoever else had been talkin bout it this week. I haven’t really taken a side on the whole situation, it would have been great if it didn’t happen, but we do need the Bobby and Whitney of the new millennium.

Week 2, Drama’s hip-hop review, lets get it
Ahhhh, this is fiiiiyaaaah. As recently as the last 2 or 3 years and perhaps early into the most recent decade, producers began to realize and exploit the fact that putting 3, 4, 5 big ass names on a record would instantly make it hot. Some fell short…. Some did it big. Others were ridiculous and just institute fuckery which is right up my alley. I stay with this and I ain’t mad at em… except for Khalid, he givin us middle easterns a bad name.
In other news, NORE aka superthug is beastin dudes over the head at fat burger and beefin with Perez Hilton? Why? I donno, but I did learn a new saying “twitter gangsta”. I will not be fuckin with this story, not because Perez is gay but because hes gaaaaaaaaaaaay and I hate hearin or lookin at him. Not that there’s anything wrong with that… No homo
50 Cent has a new video game out. Dude is fightin terror, peep it. I feel safer knowing hes out there fighting for our freedom. No word yet as to if he kills Khalid in the final level.

Chris Brown got Rihanna a bunch of ish for her b-day to make amends and rumor has it that SHE wants to get back together with the kid. More proof that females love bein treated badly. Some more info on why this popped off in the first place, I know ya’ll have heard that it might have been due to the h bomb but there has also been word that she might be preggers. All I know is that Chris needs to put out more of this and everyone will forget.
Speakin of preggers, Ray J is insane, I mentioned last week that that girl Danger might be pregnant…. dude confirmed that she is. Not sure if it’s his or not yet but I’m sure we’ll know soon. Dude out here claimin he tryin to find love on the show…. we know whats up, if they were gonna bring the fly honies to you, why wouldn’t you partake? That’s just cutting out the middle man.

Drama’s Hip-Hop Breakdown. The boys (not men) at Code 2 bring to you a weekly column from one of the resident heads: Benny “Drama” Lava. Everything from hip hop news, trends, genres, album reviews, artist bios and eventually downloads (once I figure out how to use WordPress).
Big ups to Jewie Louis and the news. I get the majority of my hip-hop news from those fools and I been on Rosenberg for a few years now… pause. Something about Jews and hip-hop just works.
Anyway for the few dense headed suckas still left out there in the world that think that there is no fuckin on reality TV, I present to you For the Love of Ray J or as I like to call it Super Star Part 2 (ask for the video link). 1) Will CB have a career when this is over?

Most importantly Big L rest in peace. Its been a handful of years since he passed. I feel that Big L was to Mase and Cam’ron what Big Pun was to Fat Joe. Kept them in check, kept the shit raw and gully and most importantly didn’t have Lean Back come out. Children of the Corn what up? If he was alive today I don’t know how things would be but it is for damn sure that he was taken too early.
