Theres a whole lot I want to share with ya’ll this weekend. So much in fact, I’ve decided to break this shit up into 2 parts (Part 2 for the inpatient). Let’s start the show with a throw back classic which takes my back to a simpler time when I was a freshman in college. Sellin nickels for dimes, passing out in bathrooms and running trying to run from cops. Get em Santana.
Man, where has the time gone. Dipset used to be that shit, but now…. Anyway, hit the jump for some more of the shit I’ve been fuckin with since last time. Little bit of dope shit from Black Milk & Royce, some J. Cole, thoughts on Shyne, a great download for the true hip-hop heads from Kevin Casey Music and most importantly ways you can help out our homies Dave Coresh and Chaise Marcel. Trust me, you need to get up on this… pause.
Our boys Dave and Chaise have been crushing all competitors on GoILL radio for the past couple of weeks. They need our help to continue that. Hit up the Heavy Hitter’s site, scroll to the bottom and vote. I know we don’t get to hear decent music on the radio over here in Grand Rapids but at least we can help them out over there dig?
I have to share this dope ass song I caught on the homie Alegion’s facebook. Some much overdue Detroit sound for ya’ll; this is what the so called “Murda Mitten” needs. We used to have that Motown Soul when the Motor City had a reason to be call the Motor City. Now that its all but a barren wasteland, we need those cats reppin that pain and struggle. Something to rally behind with the shit is the way it is. Won’t fix the economy but shit fuck it, nothing will. If you’re over looking Detroit and Michigan in general… you’re Losing Out (see what I did there?). Anyway.. the illest.
So the homie Shyne is out. I personally am indifferent to this shit. Sure the conditions that fella went in on are fucked but worst shit has happened to greater people. I haven’t heard a lot of his shit but I’m not blown away by anything he has ever put out. There are some that consider him to be the 2nd coming, the so called “Savior of Bad Boy” after late great Frank White passed. I don’t know, I just don’t see it BUT if you want to hear a great counter argument to my view, you gotta peep Ollie’s take on the matter. Nickel Plated Bama WUD UP!!!
Sure anyone who has been following the blog has heard some or at least of J. Cole. The next big thing? I donno, we’ll see if he reaches Drake or Cudi status by the end of next year. As of right now, he is dope. Even more dope is his video for Young Simba, which may I add was done by BBGun. If you haven’t seen any of their work before, get out their video for Famous Girl which I put up last time.
If I had to describe my Hip-Hop as an entity its heart would be from LA, the soul from the Chi but the mind would no doubt be from New York. As much as I love the Chi and vibe off of everything that comes from the West Coast, I can always go to that default zone, New York Hip-Hop. This is why this project by Kevin Casey is special to me. Homie completely captures that New York sound at its best, right between 93 and 2001. It bumps, get it here.
