What better way to spend the Labor Day weekend then getting poed up with the friends family and watching the Temptations movie on VH1?
This weeks Sunday School we’ll discuss Nas, Damian Marley, Jay-Z, Cudi and the bullshit ass music industry.
So, I guess that Jay-Z guy is putting out another album a few years after he retired. Blueprint 3 y’all, I know El Capo is hyped about it, what does everyone else think? I mean the man is in fact a genius in the game; a living legend if you will, with an endless stream of talent. He holds a pinnacle position in the state of hip-hop music and its direction. The ability to put the kibosh on whack shit (auto-tune) or make someone completely irrelevant (Prodigy) or even bring someone to idol status (Yeezy). No doubt he’s got some classics under him, a little bit of whack shit here and there too, I mean he’s been in the game so long he’s got prove his humanity every once in a while. It’s my understanding that there are 2 mindsets in hip-hop, those who believe Blueprint was the greatest Jay-Z album and those that believe Reasonable Doubt was his greatest album. Though I find myself as part of the later, I’m sure I’ll be checking out Blueprint 3 sometime. Peep the Rhapsody commercial, which I think was dope as fuck. IT’S THE ROC
Head over to 2Dope to check out the track list from the upcoming Damian Marley and Nas collaboration. Me and Bazooka Earl were lucky enough to see them at Rock the Bells a little while back and if they come with the same energy in this album as they did on stage, it will not disappoint. It looks like all new shit, at the show we thought it would be some rasta’d out versions of Nas classics which how now been dispelled it seems. Good shit from 2 of my favorites out of their respective genres.
I don’t know what to make of the industry sometimes. With the way media is and the internet living in the future, how is anyone to expect that their album hasn’t already been listened to cover to cover by everyone before it’s even released. Case in point, that new Kid Cudi that was supposed to come out on the 15th. Now I’m not one who sits around waiting for something to drop, I hear shit when I hear shit. But yesterday, on 4 separate occasions, I heard it somewhere or someone asked me about it or this or that. Which is cool and what not, but it really is fucking up the industry. Although it is very rare that I buy an album, it is a guarantee that I won’t buy an album if it’s on the internet weeks before it comes out. It is my assumption that people with higher IQs listen to better music, and know how to use the internets and would download and album by their favorite MC who is likely more talented than most. This leaves the stupid fucks without internets that only know about Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy. BANG BANG off soapbox.
I’m watching Mean Girls right now. Old Lindsey Lohan stays winning and Tina Fey… mmmm. *Side note, why is Joe Budden playing at the party in the movie?*
In conclusion I would like to leave you with a brief summery of my argument….
